Description: This head and neck cancer-focused course will enable attendees to have a better understanding of the diagnosis of head and neck cancer-related lymphedema. Attendees will have increased awareness of the diagnosis and treatment options for head and neck cancers, the pathophysiology surrounding head and neck cancer-related lymphedema, as well as appropriate identification and treatment of patients with this condition. Attendees will receive education regarding effects of head and neck cancer and its treatments on the lymphatics, signs and symptoms of head and neck cancer-related lymphedema, unique presentation and special considerations treating this population, and proper treatment of lymphedema. In addition, attendees will gain insight into survivorship issues that shape the care pathway. Included is an overview of lymphedema treatment including the use of an advanced pneumatic compression device used in the home to effectively manage head and neck cancer-related lymphedema.
The course content is relevant to PTs, PTAs, OTs, OTAs, SLPs, physicians, nurses and others involved in the care of patients with lymphedema. This distance learning, independent program is considered at an intermediate educational level.
